Each religion will cover Key religious figures, information on their holy book and a rite of passage/religious practice. The aim of this unit is to compliment our GCSE curriculum in which we study Christianity and Islam. The learning journey for the unit is included. L2: Noah- looking at what covenant means, why Noah was chosen and ending with a newspaper article task with differentiated support.

Muhammad and the role of women- A lesson that looks at Muhammad’s wives- Khaijah and Aisha, and how Muhammad changed the role of women in Islam. Islam Practices aimed at AQA spec (Y10). Uses examples of Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) and Mo Salah (Liverpool FC footballer) as good practice for charitable giving. 4 mark exam question with model answer.

A unit of work that sees students shipwrecked on a desert Island. They must create a community, rules, rites of passage and festivals before they are saved. The student workbooklet was photcopied back to back and used throughout. Language used refers to “levels” so will need tweaking. Baptism: An introduction to the concept of the 7 sacraments. The lesson then looks at the difference between infant and believer baptism. Considering why someone would choose to baptise their child. Main activity encourages students to write aletter of advice to a pregnant woman considering baptism for her child. There is some further reading to encourage challenge and literacy development.

A great unit of work that looks at religion and chocolate. It firstly starts with how chocolate was used in rituals during Mayan and Aztec ceremonies, followed by the Cadbury brothers who started chocolate shops due to their Quaker beliefs. Finishing with Fairtrade. Lessons are bundled together and sold for a low price as elements of the lessons refer to “levels” language for their differentiation- would take a matter of minutes to tweak. A really fun unit in the run up to Christmas or Easter, or for primary school students who may be studying Chocolate/Fairtrade as a topic area. Islam Practices aimed at AQA Spec (Year 10). The lesson looks at Mo Salah (Liverpool FC player) as a positive role model (trying to engage boys!) Complete a mark place activity for learning about prayer, followed by planning (or completing dependant on lesson time) as 12 mark response. 3 model answers are provided (from AQA website).
